An Escape For All Seasons

Spring

  • Cottage Garden

The trees are beginning to show their young leaves, and as the daffodils bow their yellow heads, the tulips and irises come into flower in a kaleidoscope of colour. The days are warm and the south-facing terraces entice you take lunch outside. The birds are in song and the country trails on the property are cleared and ready for your morning stroll or to do some bird watching--I have already spotted over 23 different species--or you may wish to visit the village of Clermont-de-Beauregard, which is just 10 minutes away on foot. By April, temperatures are often in the 70's, and the pool is heated to 27° (81° F). The days are getting longer...summer is on its way. The local restaurants and cafes are putting their chairs and tables outside but the nights can still be cool enough sit by the log fire and read a book with an after-dinner coffee.

Summer

  • Lounge by the Swimming Pool

Start the day with a hearty breakfast and a large glass of cold, freshly-squeezed orange or grapefruit juice on the terrace.... A day at the Manoir... A game of badminton on the lawn before the sun gets too hot then off to the pool to relax or read a book under the trees. Tea time.... At 4:30 the bell rings and tea is served with homemade cakes on the terrace. It is great fun to play pétanque or boules together before watching the amazing sunset, perhaps with an apéritif under the gazebo by the pool. We can reserve a restaurant for you; there are many to choose from with outdoor verandas or terraces, in the towns or in the country, familial or Michelin starred. There are weekend flea markets in many of the pretty villages for you to find a little 'French Something' to take home or to paint on during one of the painted-furniture courses held in the barn at Le Manoir.

Autumn

  • autumn

In September and October it is often still hot enough to swim and dine outside. The figs are ripe to pick and eat straight from the trees, and the walnuts are starting to fall from the many walnut trees on the property. Take a basket and go off to collect as many as you like...you are welcome to take some home with you. The mushroom season starts now, and if you haven't the courage to go mushroom hunting in the surrounding forests, the markets have plenty. In the colder evenings the log fire is lit, or if you are staying in the cottage, there is always plenty of firewood for the fire.

Winter

  • P1000237

It is beautiful here even if it snows as you can see for miles around, and on sunny days it can be warm enough to have lunch outside. The farmers markets continue all through the winter and the famous truffle markets start in December. Try foie gras aux truffes at one of the market stalls. When you return to the Le Manoir, the log fire will be lit, or if you are staying in the cottage, there is always plenty of firewood for a cozy fire.

Learn how to make foie gras or cook confit de canard with spiced pears in the Manoir kitchen. (by reservation)
